The branch of biology termed Genomics aims to study the genome, that is the whole of genes encoded by the DNA of a given cell.

The final purpose of genomics is to sequence, map and analyze all the genes in a cell and it necessarily works on a large scale, making use of systematic approaches, the so called "high-throughput" technologies.

Thus, genomics analyses comprise molecular studies addressing genes at several levels, starting from their base sequence (polymorphism and mutation analysis) and chromosomal arrangement (numerical and structural aberration analysis), to then expand towards the investigation of their expression, function and reciprocal interactions within the complex network of molecular processes characterizing any biological system ("functional genomics").

This research unit is devoted to genomics research cooperating with researchers of diverse disciplines and contributing to the success of the research projects providing molecular biology and bioinformatics expertise.
